IN DREAMS In dreams, I walk l familiar halls In places I have never been before. In scenes of meaningful talks I chat with people I once ignored Who seem to come and go And change from face to face In cities I used to live and know While I zip from place to place. Rooms appear that are not there That lead me to amazing views Of jewel chests lined up in rows Like glittering chapel pews. In dreams I fly like Superman And move huge rocks around With just the movement of my hand And land softly on the ground. I run as fast as greyhound does And never run out of breath. In some I transcend physics And override the hold of death. I have played Carnegie Hall My piano talent legendary To wake to know I can’t play at all And not find that a bit scary. In dreams I am what I am not In my normal waking existence. When I’m asleep the ideas flow Because they find no resistance To whatever is going on then My ego is also sound asleep; No mountain is too high to climb, There is no ocean too deep. When I wake, I write them down So I can share the ones I recall. I take heart and encouragement. They don’t get me down at all. Instead I turn them into paintings Or maybe into some poetry. Dreams impel me to excel. That means a lot to me. Brent Kincaid 1/19/2014
