IN LOVING MEMORY For our regular customers that are in the shop - TopicsExpress

IN LOVING MEMORY For our regular customers that are in the shop frequently I want to share some sad news. We tragically lost a loved member of our staff Thursday night. Megan Buskirk had been with us for fifteen years, the employee with the most seniority. Megan worked last Thursday at the store on weddings going out Friday and Saturday. The photo below is the last wedding cake she decorated that day. She came to us as a recent graduate of culinary school, single, and loving her weekends off. She quickly learned the art of cake decorating and started her journey with us. We watched her grow and mature, settle down, and get married. She began working five days a week and taking on some of the more challenging cakes. When she and her husband began looking for a house to buy she asked if she could work six days a week! Then Megan asked if she could take on more responsibilities in the actual running of the business and eventually became my manager. Six years ago, a delightful little girl, Murphy, came into their lives. Megan asked to cut back her hours so she could be with her daughter. Later, little George and Lillian joined the family. When one works beside someone on a daily basis for fifteen years you get to know them very well. Megan was a cherry Coke and Mountain Dew guzzler who loved her Pringles, chocolates, and cheese! Her ideal meal was potatoes fixed five ways. :) She was always cheerful, friendly, and kind. Despite her busy load with husband, children, book clubs, friends, and Junior League, she was always helpful and attentive to her work. She was the creator of many of our wedding cakes. Most of our current staff received the majority of their training from her. She could always combine strict standards and a good joke. She knew many of our customers by name and was always ready to serve them and their needs. I felt comfortable to leave the store in her capable hands when I was gone. We are a small business and our employees work very close together, not only in proximity, but in camaraderie. Producing cakes is a team effort. The feeling is more of a large family all in the kitchen trying to get a large holiday meal done on time. We all help one another to get the job done. Employees are like sisters and I feel like the Mom! There really are no words to express how much we will miss Megan. Our hearts go out to her family as they go through these difficult days. I trust you understand as we work to rearrange staffing and our workloads as we adjust to this loss. Below is the listing of services if you want to express your condolences personally. If you want to leave a card, note, or memory of Megan at the store, we will get them to her family. Our store will be closed Friday, October 24th from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM so that the staff can attend Megans funeral. Rest in peace my friend. Visitation Thursday October 23, 2014 from 4:00PM until 8:00PM at the Leppert Mortuary & Crematory Services, Nora Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday October 24, 2014 at 10:30AM in St Luke Catholic Church,7575 Holliday Drive East, Indianapolis
