IN SEARCH OF FRENCH TOAST This Friday morning I had an intense craving for French Toast, the taste for which I acquired many years ago through short stays at the LA County Jail where every Tuesday they serve this sweet delight for breakfast. This is where you can find the tastiest French Toast around and I have not found French Toast that could compare. But then again it might be the ambience and the company that makes LA County Jail French Toast taste so good. LA County Jail inmates hardly pass up on French Toast Tuesday and almost always have perfect attendance at the mess hall even if breakfast begins at 4:30 AM. I have it on good account that some inmates commit petty crime so that they could satiate their craving for this egg and milk soaked, then toasted, buttered bread with maple syrup poured on top that the jail cook makes into a pluffy breakfast fare. French Toast is the only exception to terrible jail house food and is readily accepted as bets on card games the inmates play to while away their time. So this Friday morning I headed for the Pancake House along Lacsons Restaurant Row to try their offering of French Toast, which turned out not bad (too sweet for me; what with the added confectionaire sugar sprinkled on top) but then I have to admit that LA County Jail serves the better French Toast. Well, my search will have to continue as I appreciate even more the freedom that I now enjoy and the thanksgiving that fills my heart for everything that the Lord has done in my life and continues to do. My past He has turned around...my life He has transformed and I point to Him and say: to You belongs the glory and all of these is made possible only by Your grace.
