They are only revealed to those who have been attuned to the second degree of Reiki as this process empowers the symbols. Without the Attunement the symbols have no power. It is quite acceptable to discuss the purpose of the symbols. If someone who is not attuned to Reiki 2 tries to use the symbols they will find them ineffective and then may claim that Reiki 2 does not work. This explains why there is a need to keep the symbols to your-self and treat them as sacred. Tests have been done where psychic Reiki 2 students have been given the symbols to use before their Attunement; all reported the same effect, not much happened. After their Attunement they repeated their use, most could see or feel the symbols working and see their effects that they produce in someone receiving Reiki (e.g. recipient falling asleep, breathing slows down). Reiki symbols are transcendental, rather than affecting only the subconscious mind as most symbols do, Reiki symbols connect directly to the “God Consciousness”, whenever a Reiki symbol is used by someone who has second degree Reiki, the “God Consciousness”, or Rei, responds by changing the way the Reiki energy functions.
