IN SPITE OF ALL, I still believe in the basic goodness of most of humankind. Even within the ranks of those who obtain great political, religious, and financial power in the world, a great many of whom are among humankinds most reprehensible scum, I think there are a few good people. We cannot hope to make positive changes in life unless we never stop trying to root bad people and weak people out of positions of power and trying to get good people into those positions. It has been done, and it can be done again and again. It is never easy. It is never accomplished quickly. It has to be accomplished over considerable spans of time, and in stages. But it can be done. FIRST, we have to abandon the idea that real progress can be made by settling for the lesser of two or more evils when we make choices.
