IN SPITE OF DANGER: PART 1 “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadows of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me” Psalm 23:4 During the Vietnam war, literature evangelists were always in danger of being captured and killed by the Viet Cong. Because of the dangers of war and possible capture by the Viet Cong, literature evangelists couldn’t stay in most places outside of Saigon for any length of time. They had to sell and move on to avoid contact with the local Viet Cong or their sympathizers. Only eternity will reveal the full extent of the work of the Vietnamese literature evangelists. Occasionally, however, there was an experience that revealed the devotion, and willingness of these soldiers of the cross. Trang Nga lived with his family in a small village, a few kilometres from the city of Danang. A credentialed literature evangelist who had for many years led the entire Vietnam literature evangelist force in sales, Trang Nga had carefully saved his money and had purchased a comfortable home for his family. They were a happy and missionary-minded family, good workers in the local church and supporting the church with their liberal offerings, as well. One day Trang Nga left home to work a few kilometres away in the countryside. When he returned in the afternoon, he met a man on the outskirts of the village who told him that the Viet Cong had taken over the village and that no one was allowed to leave. Trang Nga had to make a very important decision, whether to enter the village and also be captured, or to go immediately to Danang. He decided on the latter course. Upon his arrival in Danang, he went to the home of his sister-in-law and told her what had happened. After considerable counselling with his relatives, Trang Nga decided he would wait for a few days to see if his family would be able to leave the village and come to Danang. Day after day Trang Nga waited, spending most of his time praying that the Lord would help his family to escape. Friday came and still there was no word from his family. Trang Nga told his sister-in-law that he would spend the Sabbath in Danang and then on Sunday he would return to his village and join his family in their captivity. He could not leave his wife and children any longer, alone in the hands of the dangerous Viet Cong. Read the next part of this story on the next page. Pray for the work in Vietnam, where the literature sold many years ago convincing people of the truth. “Never lose sight of the fact that you belong to God, that He has bought you with a price, and you must render an account to Him for all His entrusted talents” (Ellen G. White, Colporteur Ministry, p. 53). Miracles of Grace
