IN everything give thanks for this IS THE WILL OF GOD IN CHRIST JESUS CONCERNING OR FOR YOU !!! (1 Thessalonians 5:18 emphasis mine) So many Christians are searching for Gods will in their life and here we find it in His Word. Notice that we are to give thanks IN every situation and NOT for every situation. Some situations are not of God and require our resistance.(James 4:7) But even in the midst of negative circumstances, one can still give thanks and praise to God for His goodness in spite of the situation. Just ask Paul and Silas. (Acts 16:23-34) Thanksgiving is the result of believing that you HAVE something. It is the language of faith. (Col.2:7; Romans 4:20) You do not have to reach some level or attain some goal to be thankful. Colossians 2:10 declares that we are complete in Him or as one translation states; if you have Jesus; you have everything. Romans 1:21 talks of people who knew God; and that because they did not glorify Him as God; neither were thankful,became vain in their imaginations or thoughts and their foolish heart was darkened . Verse 22 continues by saying that they professing themselves to be wise became fools.I believe that a believer can quench Gods Spirit by being unthankful. ( 1 Thes. 5:18 along with verse 19) It is my conviction that the thankful heart is the Godly contentment that produces the great gain. of 1 Timothy 6:6. As we celebrate Thanksgiving I encourage both you and I to begin to practice Thanksgiving Living. I believe this is the doorway to the abundant life that He has made available for us In Christ.
