IN spite of teething problems in some of the All Progressives - TopicsExpress

IN spite of teething problems in some of the All Progressives Congress (APC), controlled states, particularly those in the Southwest geo-political zone, the National vice chairman (Southwest), Chief Niyi Adebayo, has dismissed the notion that the recently constituted body, State Harmonisation Committee, is an instrument meant to rein in alleged excesses of the state governors. Speaking yesterday with The Guardian, the former Ekiti State governor, informed that the real intention behind the committee is basically to ensure that when the party starts its registration, wherever there are dispute or problem with the exercise, there will be a body members can lay their complain. According to Adebayo, the body is also saddled with responsibility of ensuring that people are properly registered. His words: “The impression that we are out to checkmate the governors is not true at all. There is no such intention whatsoever. The national vice chairmen are expected to exercise whatever power they have in consultation with the state governors. There is no attempt in respect of checkmating the governors. You cannot work in a state without the cooperation of the governor; the governors of the respective states head the committee. He will work with the zone’s vice chairman to ensuring smooth coordination and registration of members of the party in the various states.
