IN the fight against poaching in the country, more than 1,000 suspects were apprehended between 2012 and March 2013. Addressing journalists in Dar es Salaam, the ministry of Tourism and Natural Resources spokesperson, Ms Yustina Malya, said 1,200 suspects were arrested for various offences, adding that some were found in illegal procession of 85 rifles and 215 rounds of ammunition. Ms Malya said a total of 670 cases were opened in different courts in the country, out of which 272 had been completed and 247 suspects were fined a total of 175,002,420/-. 71 other suspects were given jail terms totalling 99 years and a total of 398 cases involving 897 suspects facing similar charges were going on in different courts across the country.
