INCIDENT: Infant Death DATE/TIME: Sunday July 27th, 2014 @ 5:00 P.M. LOCATION: Winona St SUSPECTS: Sherrie Tiesha Clay and Shakee Duquan Robinson Statesville NC: On Sunday July 27th, 2014 the Statesville Police Department was contacted in reference to a 4 week old child who had arrived at Iredell Memorial Hospital suffering from heat exposure. The infant was transferred to Baptist Hospital where he later passed away. **UPDATE** On Sunday July 27th, 2014 the suspects, along with the victim and other children returned to their residence at around 2:00 P.M. The suspects did not remove the infant from the vehicle and approximately two hours later the infant was discovered in the vehicle by his Aunt. The aunt along with the infant’s mother, Sherrie Clay, drove the infant to Iredell Memorial Hospital. The Statesville Police Department along with the Iredell County Department of Social Services began an immediate investigation into the circumstances leading up to the infant’s death. As a result of the investigation the remaining children of the two suspects were placed in temporary custody by Social Services. On Monday August 4th, 2014 the Statesville Police Department Criminal Investigation Division concluded its investigation into the death of the 4 week old child. Investigators determined based on the information gathered during the course of the investigation that the infant died from Hyperthermia as a result of being left in a vehicle for approximately 2 hours. As a result of this investigation and after presenting these findings to the District Attorney’s Office, warrants were obtained on the parents of the infant, Sherrie Tiesha Clay and Shakee Duquan Robinson, both of Statesville, for Involuntary Manslaughter and Felony Child Abuse. Both Clay and Robinson were then located, arrested and taken before the magistrate. Both received a $200,000.00 secured bond and are currently being held at Iredell County Jail.
