INCIDENT TYPE: Assault and Robbery BRIEF NARRATIVE: On 12/24/2014 at approximately 0133 hours South Burlington Police Department officers responded to the Maplefields at 811 Williston Road in South Burlington for the report of a robbery. Upon their arrival on scene they determined a male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a mask suspect had entered the store, demanded money while brandishing a knife, and fled after the store clerk gave him money. Alert citizens in the area were able to provide a description of the suspect vehicle to police and Winooski Police Department officers located the vehicle shortly after. When Winooski Police attempted to stop the vehicle, a 2011 Ford Focus, it did not stop. The vehicle was ultimately stopped by Milton Police officers using spike strips. Officers on scene apprehended operator Rebecca Robair, 20, of Swanton and Matthew Cobb, 26, of Grand Isle. Investigation performed collectively among South Burlington Police, Milton Police, and Winooski Police, with the assistance of other police agencies, determined Cobb was responsible for five of the area robberies beginning on 12/09/2014. These included a robbery at Rene’s Deli in Milton on 12/09/2014, a robbery at Chuck’s Mobil in Winooski on 12/09/2014, a robbery at Chuck’s Mobil in Winooski on 12/16/2014, a robbery at Champlain Farms/University Shell in South Burlington on 12/18/2014, and the robbery on 12/24/2014 in South Burlington. Cobb and Robair were transported to Vermont Superior Court for arraignment on multiple counts of Assault and Robbery. Photographs are unavailable at this time. The South Burlington Police Department would like to thank the public for remaining vigilant during this spree of robberies and would also like to acknowledge the good work done by Winooski PD, Colchester PD, Milton PD, Burlington PD and the Vermont State Police in solving this crime.
