INCOMMET (Improving National Capacities in Observation and Management of Marine Environment in Tunisia an EU-FP7 project (FP7-INCO-2011-6) is organizing its final international conference to present the actions realized as well as current and future developments. We are pleased to invite you to attend the “International Conference on Mediterranean Sea Marine Research: Scientific Priorities and Societal Challenges” which will be held in Hammamet Tunisia on November 18-20, 2014. This event will represent a forum for researchers, users and stakeholders across the Mediterranean area to present and discuss recent developments in high frequency observation of the marine environment and strategies for effective monitoring of coastal areas. The principal goal of this conference will be to present some of the latest outstanding breakthroughs in new methods in marine microbiology, planktonology and physical oceanography, all focusing on new techniques and approaches in marine observation. Eminent scientists will present Plenary and Keynote Lectures at the event: Christopher Gauchi, INCOMMET Projet Officer, Brussels. Franck-Oliver Glockner, Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology, Bremen, Germany. Heidi Sosik, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, USA. Hubert Mazurek, Aix Marseille University, France. Machteld Rijkeboer, Rijkswaterstaat, Laboratory for Hydrobiological Analyses, The Netherlands. Michèle Barbier, The Mediterranean Science Commission (CIESM), Monaco. Moez Jbara, FP7 NCP, Borj Cedria, Tunisia. Nadia Pinardi, University of Bologna, Italy. Paolo Favali, Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia, Italy. Ramon Massana, Institute of Marine Sciences of Barcelona (ICM, CSIC), Spain. Roberto Danovaro, Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn di Napoli, Italy. Sessions covered by the conference in new approaches in marine observation are: R&D opportunities at the European level: Transfer of knowledge for governance of the marine environment New challenges in high frequency observation in marine environment New approches in marine microbial ecology Marine observation between research and development All submitted abstracts will be reviewed on the basis of scientific merit, novelty and practical application. Due to the limited slots available, the selected abstract for oral presentation that could not fit in the schedule will be accepted as a poster. DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSION: September 1st , 2014 Detailed information on procedures for abstract submission and registration, and important dates can be found at: incommet.org/article,international-conference-on-mediterranean-sea-marine-research-scientific-priorities-and-societal-challenges,3,1504,en.htm We look forward to see you in Hammamet-Tunisia.
