INDIA - LUCKNOW: The centre has released the first ever financial sanction to Amangarh tiger reserve. The sanction of Rs 24 lakh will be utilized for the management of the reserve. Six persons have been killed in area adjoining the reserve since December 29, in attacks by a stray feline. Though, the big cat has moved on to Corbett as is hinted by the seventh killing reported from Kotdwar, Uttrakhand, on Tuesday, forest department plans to utilize central funds for better management of Amangarh reserve. Amangarh in Bijnor formed the buffer of the Corbett tiger reserve. However, after Uttrakhand was carved out, Amangarh remained in UP. The 80 sq km was notified as Amangarh tiger reserve in October 2012. It was long planned but UP took time to notify it. Being a tiger reserve would bring central funds to the area under Project Tiger, said deputy inspector general, National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), New Delhi, SP Yadav. Bijnor, more or less has a dispersing population of tigers from Corbett. Eight to ten tigers might be present in the area. It has, on and off, reported tiger poaching incidents. This was one of the main reasons why UP government wanted it to be a tiger reserve as that would bring a better security paraphernalia to the area. We have also released about Rs 8 lakh from tiger society for Amangarh. Emphasis would be to use the fund well, said PCCF (Wildlife), UP, Rupak De. Centre released the fund in December last year. Most of it will be used for making forest staff better trained and equipped.
