INDIA ON AN EDGE-Part 1 ( FOR THE SERIOUS AND THE DISCERNING) India is in the throes of great change. 2014 Elections will be litmus test for India’s future. All the stakeholders in the power structure except the common people (including the US imperialism) in the name of whom every policy decision is said to be taken know this. Since 1991 when neo-liberalization and globalization policies were started to be pursued, all the 22 years have been one of pushing forward an economic agenda that ran in close proximity with the US. Each 5 year rule in between elections has been one of spiraling the agenda to the next level. Just seeds were sown in the initial period from 1991 to 1996. The policy makers just drifted to restructure our 40 year economic path. The process was not easy but they held on. There were many pitfalls they faced. But they unwound each sphere of Indian life according to the new economic doctrine. Before anyone can understand what is going on the speed of liberalization gathered great momentum and the last 5 years since 2009 has been one of complete and inverted change that is in complete tune with the policy dictates of the US. This change was the one expected and vigorously carried forward in the last 22 years by the US. The question now before the stake holders is where to go from here. The promised paradise to the Indian people never really happened. The entire wealth of India including the manpower resources is being usurped in connivance with the US imperialism. The policy has proved disastrous for India. Yet it is being pursued with vigor. Majority of Indian people have no basic food, sanitation, drinking water, electricity, health and education. The state is oblivious to this reality. The rural population is the most affected with farmer suicides on a high. Unemployment among the youth is staggeringly alarming. The pet names of the State, Growth and Development, have not reached the downtrodden sections of society. There is impoverishment. Behind the façade there is deep distress among the crores of people. Even the upwardly mobile urban middle class is caught in a bind. The Dalis, the Tribals, Adivasis and the women continue to bear the brunt. Each state in India boasts of development. For whom is the question. While the exploiting class continue to make merry at the cost of the exploited classes, the state machinery is allowing merry making to continue without any hindrance. The economic crisis, the blatantly open corruption, the corporate loot of India’s natural resources, the political and the cultural setup aiding and abetting the plunder, the disarming of toiling masses, continued arrogance of govt. machinery are all a result of pursuance of an agenda that denies the vast populace any say. What is the political fallout of such an experiment since 1991. Since this is what slaps in our face directly, let me go in to that process in detail.
