In India, disabled women face the struggles because of cultural and social structures that restrict women’s mobility, freedom of speech, and basic human rights. Disabled women, particularly those in rural communities, often have little freedom and social attitudes significantly limit their lifestyle choices, including family, motherhood, education, employment, and health care; and influence the way disabled women perceive themselves and are perceived by others. The workshop is expected to offer them confidence, support and assist to enter the media field and make a mark. They are expected to produce documentaries that can effectively tell stories of women and others with disability. It is hoped that they can use the medium of cinema to create public awareness to break down barriers, myths, stereotypes and misconceptions about disabled and disability.
