INDIAN ARMY COMMEMORATES WALONG DAY Remembering the matyrs of 1962 war - Indrajit Tingwa Walong 17th Nov.2014 : The Indian Army commemorated the 52nd anniversary of the historic battle of Walong in a simple yet solemn ceremony on 16th of November. Lt.General Bipin Rawat AVSM YSM SM VSM, GOC Spear Corps presided over the ceremony which was attended by civilian officials, troops of Walong garrison and villagers from nearby villages. This annual commemoration is in honour of tbe gallantry of the valiant soldiers of the Indian army who made the supreme sacrifice in the defence of the nation during the 1962 India-China war. On the occasion, an imposing 9 feet tall statue Soldier in Silence crafted by renowned sculptor Gautam Pal was unveiled at the Hut of Remembrance. To mark the event, mesmerising light and sound show was also organised which will continue to be a regular feature for visitors in future. The gathering also witnessed folk drama and music presented by local children, troupes and garrison troops. A medical camp with the theme Know Your Army was also organised during the commemoration. It was a significant event marking an important chapter of Indian military history
