INDIANA GOLD STAR FAMILIES - You are invited to attend a Gold Star Family Gathering at the Indiana Veterans Home this Saturday, December 6th beginning at 10:30am. We will meet in MacArthur Hall on the campus of the Indiana Veterans Home in West Lafayette. Please bring a patriotic ornament to exchange with another Gold Star Family. We will have holiday goodies and drinks for everyone. One very special part of this morning will be the decorating of the Indiana Fallen Soldier Trees. This project started in 2006 when a relative of Gold Star Mother, Brenda Wilson purchased an Indiana Fallen Soldier Tree that was being auctioned off at the Kokomo Mall. The tree has an ornament with the picture of each Indiana Fallen Soldier on it. (see photos) It was a gift that Brenda and CV Wilson have decided to share with other Gold Star Families. For a 5 years the Wilson shared the tree and several of our local Gold Star families put the tree up in their homes. It was decided that the Indiana Veterans Home would be a great place to display the tree. So this is the third year of gathering and putting the tree up. Last year the tree was in bad shape. We had to take a hack saw to the trunk and use duct tape to make it stand up! It was rather funny. So when the tree was taken down it was also thrown away. I’m am so very happy to report that we now have two NEW Christmas Trees donated by Home Depot! We will be using the original ornaments this year, but before our 2015 gathering it is our goal to make a new ornament for all of the 455+ fallen Indiana soldiers who have died since 9/11/2001. Not all of our soldiers were KIA, but all of these soldiers died while serving on active duty. PLEASE RSVP to me ASAP. If you know a Gold Star Family who isn’t on my email list, please contact them and invite them and send me their contact information. We want to make sure that we have an ornament for everyone attending to place on the tree. We have over 200 current soldiers on the tree, but haven’t been able to keep the tree as updated as we would like. OUR GOAL FOR 2015! I hope you and your family will be able to attend. I apologize for the short notice this year, but we would waiting on the donation from Home Depot and a date from the Indiana Veterans Home. I promise to be a better Gold Star State President in 2015. I look forward to hearing from you and seeing many of your Saturday! Pam Mow
