Consult with specialist. 21 Altered conscious level shou ld be attributed to head injury until proven otherwise. The decision to CT should be appl ied regardless of the influence of intoxication. Patients with combined head / thoracic / abdominal traum a may present difficult investigation and management probl ems. The general recommendat ion is that patients who are bleeding and haem odynamically unstable, shoul d have haemorrhage controlled prior to having CT scans of the head.
