INDUSTRIALISATION: $550M DRY PORT, TRADE CENTRE TO BERTH IN OGUN SOON A fifty million dollar dry port project is soon to berth in Wasimi, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State. This is yet another fruitful result of the State Government to industrialise the State and create employment opportunities. Aside this, a group of investors with interest in automobile, building and appliances among others have also indicated their readiness to inject the sum of 500 million dollars into the state’s economy through the creation of a trade centre. All these came to light in Abeokuta at two different meetings the State commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru held with the promoters of the dry port project, Hull Blyth Nigeria, and the group of investors on take-off modalities. Hull Bly Nigeria is a shipping company that has been operating in the country for over a century. Addressing newsmen shortly after the meeting, its Managing Director, Mr. Christian Holm, revealed that it would take his company about a year to construct the dry port expected to serve as an extension of the sea port in Lagos, saying that “we want to take advantage of the State nearness to Lagos as well as its conducive business environment,”. On the other hand, the team of investors led by Mr. Collins Mbaigbu disclosed that they chose the State as their investment destination because of its proximity to other states, affirming that the State government had created an enabling environment for businesses like theirs to thrive. “Our interest spans automobile, building and appliances among others, we are ready to bring our investments worth 500 million dollars into the State, we want to establish a trade centre. Our decision about this was made taking into consideration the nearness of the State to others and the deliberate steps being taken by the State government to encourage and attract investments through provision of infrastructures”, Mgbaigu stated.
