INECS PREPARATION FOR 2015 ELECTIONS THE BAYELSA NUJ PRESS WEEK LECTURE REVEALED THAT INEC HAS MADE ROBUST PREPARATIONS FOR A FREE, FAIR AND CREDIBLE ELECTIONS. 1. The 2015 General Elections will use the Card Reader in the process of accreditation of voters before they vote. This is to be made possible because of the type of Voters Register that we have now. Multiple Registration and Multiple Voting are things of the past. 2. Furthermore, the commission is putting in place what is termed the Re-modified open ballot system that will enable an individual to cast his/her Vote in secret but drop the ballot in the box in the most open and transparent manner as possible. 3. One of the banes of many previous elections in the Country is inadequate security. Thus in 2011 the Commission facilitated the creation of the Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security(ICCES) That Organ has even got better as more aspects of its operations since then have continued to be perfected. That Committee is now present at all levels and has continued to hold strategic meetings since 2011 with a view to stemming the spate of electoral violence before, during and after polls. 4. The Commission has adopted a revised framework for engagement of ad hoc officials who will be properly trained. This is coupled with an equally new framework for result collation and returns. 5. INEC has recently established the National Inter-Agency Consultative Forum for Voter Education (NICVEP). The Forum comprises all media and education related Agencies in the country, governmental and otherwise, to enhance Voters Education. The States and LGA Counterparts have similarly been inaugurated throughout the country and indeed in Bayelsa state. to be contd.
