INFO Tidbits > shared Catholic Encyclopedia The Epistle of St. James: One of the Catholic Epistles, written by James the Less, perhaps the first of the New Testament, some scholars dating it around the year 49. Martin Luther called it an Epistle of straw and unworthy of an Apostle. The reason for his statements is evident, for the teaching of the Epistle (Letter) undoubtedly CONDEMNS Luthers favorite doctrine (?) that faith alone without good works suffices for salvation (James 2:14-26). However, the King James Bible retains the Epistle (Letter) . . . .
