INFORMATION AND SUBMISSIONS DETAILS: WHO: The competition is open to students in grades 9-12 who reside in Los Angeles and surrounding counties. WHAT: One winning play will be chosen to receive a professional, twelve-hour rehearsal process and public, staged reading with The Vagrancy’s production staff (which includes a director, stage manager, dramaturge/literary consultant, and actors). The young playwright will experience the process of RRR– rehearsal, revision, and reading– that professional playwrights go through as they develop new works for the stage. WHEN: Submissions will be accepted from October 15, 2013 until January 15, 2014. The winner and all other entrants will be notified by the end of January, and rehearsals and a public reading of the winning play will be held during the last week of February. WHERE: Professional performance and rehearsal venues are TBD. The winning playwright will be notified of a complete schedule, including venues, in late January. WHY: The Vagrancy is a theater company that supports the development of new work and the education of the next generation of theater artists! Join us in making a positive difference in the Los Angeles community through the cultivation of new voices! HOW TO ENTER: 1. Please submit your $15 entry fee via the Young Playwrights Competition “Add to Cart” button on our ActOut! page: thevagrancy/act-out/ . The button will be functional beginning on OCTOBER 15, 2013 and will cease to function after JANUARY 15, 2014. *Make sure to include the young playwright’s name, grade, school, and submission title (i.e., William Shakespeare, Grade 11, Stratford-Upon-Avon High School, The Tempest) when you submit your payment (This is important, since the name on your credit card or PayPal account may be different from the student’s name). Note: If you are dealing with financial hardship and cannot afford the entry fee, let us know! E-mail us at the address below and explain your situation, and we may be able to offer a discount or fee waiver! 2. Next, e-mail your submission in .doc or PDF format to ActOut! Education Partner, Anne Butler, at actouteducation.thevagrancy@gmail. Make sure to note, in the e-mail, the date when you submitted your entry fee via our website. *Include your first and last names, e-mail address, and phone number on each page of your document. We are looking for short, one-act, and full-length plays, so your document should be between 10 and 120 pages in length.
