INGO JOBS in GOLDEN LAND Myanmar: Lead Elections Expert Organization: Democracy Reporting International Country: Myanmar Closing date: 15 Sep 2014 Vacancy Notice Lead Elections Expert Background Democracy Reporting International (DRI) and Electoral Reform International Services (ERIS) are currently implementing the project, “Supporting Civil Society Organisations on Electoral Analysis and Democracy Reform Advocacy in Myanmar.” This project aims to reinforce the role of civil society in domestic observation and to promote awareness about international human rights and democracy standards to support Myanmar’s transition. Objective and Role The Lead Elections Expert will participate in programme strategy formulation, provide expertise on electoral and wider democracy issues, coordinate joint advocacy points and publications with the implementing partners, deliver trainings, and liaise with electoral stakeholders and decision-makers. Tasks will include: Contribute to DRI’s electoral analysis by reviewing draft laws, sub-legal acts or other material and draft DRI briefing papers, reports, training material, etc. in coordination with civil society organisations; Advise civil society organisations from Myanmar on electoral matters (electoral laws, electoral system, etc.) and relevant international standards and best practices; Conduct consultations and meetings with stakeholders to gather information on electoral, legislative and political developments, share analysis and discuss findings; Conduct trainings and workshops with CSOs on key aspects of democratic governance; Give oral briefings and presentations; Travel to and within Myanmar as needed; Other related duties as assigned. Duration of the assignment A maximum of 47 expert days with the possibility of extension, immediate start date. Qualifications University degree in relevant subject Over 5 years of relevant professional experience Professional experience in electoral programmes – election legislation, technical support, election observation or election administration Understanding of the legal and constitutional framework of Myanmar Detailed knowledge of international election standards, conventions and obligations Strong research, writing, presentation and group facilitation skills Excellent oral and written English Ability to travel regularly throughout Myanmar How to apply: Interested candidates should submit a CV and cover letter to [email protected] with “Key Elections Expert – Myanmar” in the subject field by 15 September 2014.
