INJURED WORKER HIT BY BOULDER ON NORWEST RAIL SITE A construction worker was struck by a falling boulder while working on the entrance to the North West Rail tunnel early this evening (22-1-15). The CareFlight rapid response trauma team were called along with other emergency services to the Norwest Business Park construction site at 6.20 pm. The 39,year-old man, from Dee Why in Sydney’s northern beaches, was welding when a 40 kg boulder tumbled about 25 metres down the concrete wall and struck him from behind. CareFlight’s medical team joined NSW Ambulance paramedics down at the tunnel entrance, treating the man for several cuts and lacerations and determining the need for further assessment for possible spinal injuries. After being stabilised on a stretcher, he was carefully placed in a crane and lifted to the surface to be placed in a road ambulance where the CareFlight medical team continued treatment en route to Westmead Hospital Photos: Injured worker being treated at the scene & lifted to surface by crane.
