INNISFAIL PCYC SQUASH SUMMER FIXTURES 2014 GRAND FINALS – FRIDAY 28th November, 2014 Congratulations to champion team, Grow Force, who defeated runners up, Kane Pumping, 3 rubbers to 2. ** * GROW FORCE *** defeated KANE PUMPING (3 – 2) Peter Finitsis defeated Gavin Lee (3 – 1) Dave Borgelt lost to Roy McCarthy (1 – 3) Gavin Devany (R) lost to Cody McCarthy (0 – 3) Jacob Perske defeated Chris Crook (3 – 0) Mark Sorbello defeated Gillian Dotti (3 – 1) The MATCH OF THE NIGHT PETER FINITSIS Versus GAVIN LEE 1st Game: 9 - 6 2nd Game: 9 - 4 3rd Game: 9 - 10 4th Game: 9 - 1 Points: 36 - 21 Highlights: Both players went into this match carrying injuries but they did not disappoint the spectators. Pete won the first two games, hitting the ball hard and sweet, mixing it up, moving Gavin around the court. In the third, Pete had his chance to clinch the match with a couple of match points. However, Gavin fought back hard, concentrating on hitting good length, to win the third 10 to 9. In the fourth, Gavin was in trouble, and Pete won the game and match to put his team in a good position. What a great match it was, showcasing how to play squash, mixing it up with touch and hard hitting drives, encompassing good length, cross courts, drops, boasts and the kill shot. Congratulations to all of the recipients of awards presented for the summer fixtures. HIGHEST CONSISTECY - DIVISION WINNERS HIGHEST CONSISTENCY DIVISION 4 WINNER CHRIS CROOK HIGHEST CONSISTENCY DIVISION 3 WINNER CODY McCARTHY HIGHEST CONSISTENCY DIVISION 2 WINNER TONY CORBY HIGHEST OVERALL CONSISTENCY WINNERS – A TIE BETWEEN LUKE HORSFORD, DIVISION 5 & TERRY BRENNAN, DIVISION 1 BEST & FAIREST PAUL McAVOY MOST IMPROVED JACOB PERSKE MATCH OF THE SEASON – SPONSORED BY SPORTZ LOOK CHRIS CROOK Versus JAMES SCULLEN (3-2) HIGHLIGHTS: This match went down to the wires in the fifth game in a nail biting finish. Chris started off strongly in the first, winning it comfortably. However, in the second game, Chris had a battle on his hands with James finding his form, mixing it up with good length and short boasts at the front of the court, winning in a long game. James continued his form into the third for another win. However, Chris was determined to stay in the match and picked himself up, playing good basic squash and hitting nice hard drives when he needed to. These tactics won Chris the fourth game to even the scores. In the fifth, Chris was down 4 to 8 but his persistence and patience under pressure paid off and he was able to claw his way back into the game to finally clinch it and the match in another long game. James played well and had his chances but Chris had the edge and kept his cool under pressure, being able to think about his game right to the end. His motto,“JUST DO IT”, certainly paid off on the night.
