INNOVATION AND CREATIVITY needs CULTIVATION AND SUPPORT to PROSPER. :) I remember a kid right here in our neighborhood who grew up with the same aspirations and experience as this kid from sierra leone.. He had this fascination with electronics at a young age (12) and dreamt of having to network people to communicate using those defective radio PCBs. Living in poverty and on scholarship in his high school, he secretly enrolled in an Out of school youth electronics school so he can learn electronics. Parent obviously didnt want that extra studying when they discovered it since it will compete with his main studies and endanger his scholarship. He continued still promising to double his efforts to maintain his scholarships. Thus he converted his dads old fighting cocks barn into an electronic haven (called trash room by his siblings and parent) repairing electronic boards, soldering circuits on old discarded PCBs. He built and repaired radios, assemble a VHF antenna for the walkie talkies, rewind electric motors and mics and speakers. The fact back then that such passion could not put food on the table hence killed for the sake of some other course. As a consuelo de bobo, he still applied for admission and scholarship to the top 3 technological schools in the country offering ECE (MIT, UP Dil, IIT)apart from his main course. He got accepted with very good prospects of scholarships in all of these schools. he chose to get into his main course anyway because it was his dads dream for one his kids. Today, this kid is in another career path but still imbued with the same passion for innovation, creativity and survivorship in a low resource community.
