INSIGHT: FACE the Issues! Some hear disappointing news and react unbecomingly. News of a police officer shooting an unarmed young man causes unjust fear, doubt, and discouragement. All this coupled with a compounding belief of the law enforcement systems failure to protect and serve. Further, in light of a Grand Jurys findings of no failure in the officers decisions, the African-American community by and large feels an abrupt slap across the face. Break glass! Burn buildings! Destroy property! Cause civil unrest! This is the reaction some are displaying. I want to urge you first to pray. Pray for our communities, our youth, and especially for those in law enforcement. I want to urge you, also, NOT to respond to stupidity with stupidity. Violence and destruction is stupid. I am not saying to not be angered, frustrated, or disgusted. Rather, in the face of such issues and events, I urge you to FACE the Issues. Do not HATE! Rather: FACE the Issues! Dont Hate: FACILITATE relations between police and community. The word facilitate means to make a process easier. Cooperate and participate in conversations to bridge the gap with the goal of bettering the communities. Dont Hate: ACCENTUATE peace! Peace is not only the absence of noise, but means the freedom of disturbance and disruption. Jesus said, Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called sons of God. Dont Hate: COMMUNICATE respectfully. You can be saying the right thing, but you must say the right thing, the right way. Even if there exists a disagreement of ideals or opinions, disagree agreeably. Dont Hate: EDUCATE yourself and educate others. Become involved in learning and expanding your understanding of community solutions, and connect with advocacy groups. Encourage others to do likewise. Again, allow your anger and frustration to motivate you in a positive direction. When life kicks you, allow it to kick you forward. FACE the issues head on. God bless you. Be safe and keep others safe. Pastor Jonno #lovesomebody
