INSIGHT INTO ETHIOPE EAST LGA. Ethiope East Local Government Area was created on 23rd September, 1991 following the excision of Ethiope West LGA from the now defunct Ethiope Local Government Area of Delta State. The headquarters is at Isiokolo now re-named Otorho-Agbon through legislation by the Delta State House of Assembly. POPULATION: By the 2006 Census figure, Ethiope East LGA had its population put at 200,792. It shares common boundaries with: Ughelli North LGA in the East; Ukwani LGA in the North and Okpe LGA in the South. The Ethiope River provides boundary in the West between the LGA and Ethiope West LGA. THE PEOPLE: Ethiope East Local Government Area has three (3) Clans namely: Agbon, Oruarivie-Abraka and Umiaghwa-Abraka. The people in these Clans are all Urhobos and speak Urhobo language. The general traditional authority of the Urhobos is applicable in the three (3) Clans in Ethiope East LGA. Each of the Clan is headed by a traditional King known as Ovie. OCCUPATION: Generally speaking, the Urhobos in Ethiope East LGA are subsistence farmers, palm oil producers and rubber tappers. Very few are engaged in craftwork and fishing. RAW MATERIALS: Ethiope East Local Government Area is blessed with abundant Crude Oil found in Kokori Inland and Orhoakpor Communities. Notable agricultural products in the area include: Palm Fruits, Rubber, Plantain, Yam, Okro, Vegetables, Fish, Corn, Pepper, Cassava, etc. INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES: Investment opportunities abound in Ethiope East Local Government Area especially in the area of; Oil Mineral production, Agriculture and Tourism. With the abundant crude oil in Kokori Inland and Orhoakpor Communities, government and private investors can establish Refinery in the Local Government Area. Investments are needed in the area of; Agro-Allied Industry such as Cassava by-products processing factories, Natural Rubber factories among others. The Beaches at Abraka provide fascinating natural scenery that attracts thousands of tourists all year round. This has also sustained a vibrant hospitality and recreation industry that other investors can tap into. The University community is an added impetus. MY VISION FOR ETHIOPE EAST LGA: With the support and cooperation of the Council Legislators, we shall enact local laws that will enable us partner with the Federal and State Governments as well as local and international companies, industrialists and investors to harness the huge economic potentials of the above raw materials for the development of communities in Ethiope East LGA. Our traditional cultural ceremonies as well as our rich dance culture will be improved upon and the State Ministry of Culture and Tourism will be our partner in promoting our tourism potentials which will ultimately provide employment and form part of our internally generated revenue. I will set-up a number of strategic committees to be headed by capable and best brains in our communities to development programmes and policies that will help convey these vibrant economic policies to fruition for the benefit of our people. My administration will be people focused, people oriented and people as sole beneficiaries. Therefore, I need your support to deliver this great vision for our LGA. Ethiope East sons and daughter in Nigeria and in the Diaspora will need to partner with me to galvanize an uncommon transformation of our communities into a pleasant and great beauty to behold. These lofty objectives will ultimately provide thousands of jobs for our teaming youths and women such that Ethiope East will become an example for other LGAs to emulate in Delta in particular and Nigeria in general. Come October 25, 2014, your votes will do the magic. Vote FAITH MAJEMITE as your LGA Chairperson. We are in this project together.
