INSPIRATION FOR SIGNIFICANCE Seeking Gods Kingdom: Seek His Righteousness Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. One major challenge for the Christian who is committed to seeking Gods Kingdom, is the tendency to make their labour for Gods Kingdom the reason why they expect God to bless them. There is a strong inclination to try to qualify for Gods goodness on the basis of our work for Him. You will observe it in the inner feeling that you deserve Gods blessings more than others who are not as committed as yourself. I once counseled a lady who was terribly sick and she made me understand that she was very unhappy with God. God, she said, had not deemed it fit to heal her even though she was usually the first to get to church to clean up the place and prepare for the service. She brought more people to church than anyone else in the congregation. She labored more than most people in the church, yet others had received all kinds of miracles and she was yet to receive hers. Immediately, I saw her problem! She was trying to qualify with her labour, for what was already hers because of Jesus labour. She was trying to get God into the idea of giving her what He has already given her! As soon as I was able to make her change the reason for her expectation from her righteousness to Gods, her body began to amend, and I later got a call from her husband that she was much better. The sickness that had ravaged her body for over three years was practically gone. As we seek the kingdom of God, let us be careful to seek also His righteousness and not ours. In other words, work for God not so that he can bless you, but rather because he has blessed you already, on the premise of what Jesus did on the cross and not on the premise of what we do for him.
