INTEGRITY, CHARACTER, CHARISMA, COMPETENCE, PROFOUND INTELLECTUAL - TopicsExpress

INTEGRITY, CHARACTER, CHARISMA, COMPETENCE, PROFOUND INTELLECTUAL AND CEREBRAL CAPACITY, SOUND ANALYTICAL SKILLS, RESPONSIBLE AND RESPONSIVE DEVOTION TO POLITICAL OFFICE, UNBIASED AND EQUITABLE DISPENSATION OF GOVERNANCE BENEFITS TO ALL CITIZENS ETC. ARE SINE QUA NON QUALITIES FOR ANY PERSON THAT DESIRE TO PARTICIPATE IN NIGERIA LEADERSHIP TODAY. Integrity alone does not translate to good governance. Tafawa Balewa, Shagari and Alex Ekwueme did not loot Nigeria,(in fact, Ekwueme left government in 1983 poorer than when he assumed office in 1979), yet they presided over governments that were sacked by the military mutineers for monumental corruption. What does that tell you?. Integrity must be complimented by solid cerebral capacity, competencies, consolidated political will, charisma, and total devotions and responsibility in leadership. It is not in doubt whatsoever that most progressive Nigerians will prefer a 75 Year Old President GMB to a 49 year Old President Dimeji Bankole or A 52 Year Old President Lucky Igbinedion.... As one of my very good friends postulated. In fact, he will be preferred far and above all the new generation politicians that have failed us. But unbiased truth be told, he can in no way be preferred over and above Oby Ezekwesili, Olusegun Aganga, Akinwunmi Adesina, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, Babatunde Fashola, Adams Oshomole and Nnaemeka Obiaraeri. NO way. That is the point I am making. He and his likes are some of the major problems with Nigeria. A man at 72, who uptill now have not been able to groom a credible successor that shares in his ideology is a big failure. That is why is difficult for you to point at any successful 2nd and third generation Nigerian owned company like the Walmarts, The Guinness, the KFC, The Coca Colas of this world. Most of us are so self centered that if it is not us it can never be another person. If it is not our way, it is the high way. Even, me I have started observing and cherry picking younger boys to groom economically and politically. Some of them are even contesting for House of Assembly elections today. Even if I stay away from my businesses for the next one year, they will not suffer because we have put in place institutional and transmission mechanisms and checks that can make it function and run as a going concern and personnel have been empowered to function even when the CEO is not there. We must all learn to build and trust successors. That is a very very tiny firm compared to a very big project like Nigeria. The man should simply join the league of elder statesmen. If he cannot grab and keep power by force for up to 2 years even with the jackboot and barrel of the gun then, he lacks the capacity to do it now. He should stop dividing and polarizing Nigeria with his divisive antics. He can get over 10 million uninformed and unlettered talakawas in the north that he and his ilks deliberately deprived basic education in the North over the last 50 years to scream mai gaskiya at him and vote for him, but he will never deceive the enlightened ones. We are wiser today. Let him just go home and rest or alternatively tell us in clear, concrete and measurable terms what he plans to do better than GEJ and PDP in the next four years convincingly. Yes Jonathan is clueless. Yes Jonathan is corrupt. Yes Jonathan cannot guarantee security? Yes PDP has failed us over the last 15 years. Is that all he has in his manifesto? Is that all his supporters has to sell to us? He should show us his measurable programmes on education. He should show us how he intends to ensure that the over 15million children of education age in the North, who are not in school for no fault of their own enrolls into school in the next 4 years. He should show us the clear road map to moving power supply from 4000 mega watts to 10,000 mega watts in the next four years. He should show us how he plans to rebuild our dilapidated infrastructure within the next four years. What is his view on separating religion from the political space. How does he plan to enforce the secularism of the Nigerian state without the likes of Hisbah and other religious and political militants standing in our faces. What are his short and long term plans to ensure that Shekau and his bands are decimated in the next one year. What are his programmes to ensure that we dont have another maitasine or its variant or MEND or Osisikankwus again in Nigeria springing up. What is his foreign policy thrusts?. What is his plan to ensure that basic primary health care is available to every Nigerian. What is his Energy plan? What are his plans to rid the oil sector of the sleaze that has bedeviled it and make it more efficient?. How does he hope to tackle corruption drastically in the face of the fact that he will work under a democratic space with an independent Judiciary and Legislature to contend with. What are his reform plans to strengthen EFCC, ICPC and the Police to make them more efficient. It is not going to be like whipping people into line with jackboots and kobokos like his first stint in the early 80s. What are his reform plans for the Military,Prisons, Customs and other para military outfits to bring them to conform with global best practices. What are his key financial market reform plans to make the financial system to support more the real sector of the economy and participate more robustly in growing our economy? What is his position on resource control and regional autonomy? What is his position on the adopted recommendations of the recently wound up constitutional conference? What is his position on the land use act? What is his position on the present structure, institutional and governance framework of Nigeria that breeds, feeds and aids corruption? What is his short and long term National Integrated Infrastructure Master Plan for Nigeria? There are many more critical issues that he and his teeming supporters need to address to convince us that he is the next best thing after the clueless one. Nigerians must learn to ask relevant questions. Those that aspire to lead us at all levels and tiers of governments must clearly demonstrate that they are worthy of our trusts and votes. The same hysteria that heralded the shoeless one in 2011 is panning out again prior to 2015. Some of us clamoured for a shoeless President without attempting to find out how his shoelessness would respond to the myriads of posers raised above. Today, most of us are at it again, clamouring for the very aged Mr Squeaky Clean. Please we should ponder, draw some breath and ask him how he plans to use his purported stature to respond to the myriads of posers raised above. We dont want to jump from frying pan to fire biko. We dont want to move from a docile/lame clueless one to a clueless Al- waliki clone. He should use every fora and meetings to address these Germain issues facing Nigeria and how he plans to creatively solve them different from what we are experiencing today in specific, see through and measurable terms and not in mere generics and sloganeering.
