INTERFACE MEETING ON DRAFT NATIONAL YOUTH POLICY BY YOUNG PROFESSIONALS: Friday 26 July, American Embassy Dear Colleagues, Are you a young professional or a youth leader in any sector? Be it education, law, artisanship, agriculture, entreprenuership, engeneering, journalism, research, auditing, finance, management, defence and security, health, e.t.c. If so, you are invited to an interface meeting on the Draft National Youth Policy targeting the young professionals as a preparatory activity for the implementation of the policy once it is adopted by Cabinet anytime soon. The interface meeting will take place on Friday 26 July 2013 at the Public Affairs Section (PAS) Auditorium of the American Embassy situated in the Old Mutual Building at City Center The meeting has been organised to provide an opportunity to young professionals to brainstorm on their role in making the upcoming new National Youth Policy a big success. This is based on observations that most of youth policies and programmes do not really translate into the change young people want. In fact Malawi is said to have good policies that do not translate in meaningful change as may be desired. In addition, young professionals have in the past not effectively participated in youth work as this has traditionally been viewed as an area for another group of youths. However, it is increasingly becoming evident that every youth category is equally affected by youth issues and therefore must be part of the solution. Once adopted, the new youth policy will aim at mobilising the youth and catalyse their energies into productive work. The young professionals will definately play an important role in the implementation, review and design of the policy and its associated programmes. There is no doubt that active participation of young professionals in the implementation of the new National Youth Policy will add the much needed value and transform youth work. It is agianst this background that the Young Professionals Forum (YPF) in conjunction with the Youth Consultative Forum (YCF) has organised an interface meeting to peep into the new book for the youth and solicit suggestions on how the new book will translate into a new chapter for the youth of Malawi. The recommendations of the meeting shall be presented to the authorities at the Ministry of Youth and Sports and NYCOM for their consideration. If interested, please attend and confirm your participation by close of business on Thursday 25 July 2013. For more information, please contact Kondwani Kaunda (YPF Coordinator) on 0888853700.
