INTERNAL SCREAMING For those of you who do not already know, Youth Advisory Boards are one of the national activism initiatives for this JSA year. YABs are groups of approximately 6-8 students who meet with their representatives on a monthly basis to advise them on issues relevant to youth. For more information, please read through the PDF file that is attached to this email. The flyer is an informational pamphlet aimed at legislators but it will give you a good idea of the idea behind YABs and how they work. Youth Advisory Boards began originally in SoCal and have since spread to the other JSA states. They are currently operational or in the process of being set-up in almost every state. In the Midwest, the plan is to start off the program with two Boards: one in Naperville and one in Ann Arbor. The purpose of this email is to begin that process in Naperville. As the Midwest Director of Activism, I will be working with you all, the CPs and DoAs of the Naperville North High School, Naperville Central High School, D204, and Metea Valley JSA chapters, to ensure the success of this program. Your chapters will be working together because they are all located within the same districts. We will be striving to set up a YAB with Representative Bill Foster or State Senator Rebekah Warren. The first thing that I need from all of you is confirmation that your chapter will be participating. Please feel free to discuss it with your chapter’s Board or to ask me any questions, but respond as soon as you can. Let me know if you have to wait to ask someone so that I don’t wait forever for a response. I’ll be sending out another email with more details on the process once I know who is interested. Thank you, Jameson O’Reilly Director of Activism Midwest Junior State of America
