INTERNATIONAL ARRIVAL STATISTICS - DECEMBER 2013 The Vanuatu National Statistics Office (VNSO) today releases its international arrival statistics for the month of December 2013. The International arrival Statistics includes international visitor arrivals by air, yachts and cruise ship. * Air and yacht visitor arrivals International visitor arrivals by air in December 2013 recorded a decline over the corresponding months of 2012. It has a decline of 11% or 1,217 falling from 11,070 in December 2012 to 9,853 visitors in December 2013. Air arrival figures however increased by 21% over the previous month. * Purpose of visit for visitors arriving by air (December 2013) In December 2013, visitors arriving for holiday purpose make up 85% of international air visitor arrivals, visitors visiting friends and families at 8%. Visitors arriving for business, meetings or conferences make up 4% and other purposes including education and sport accounted for 2%. * Country of usual residence for visitors arriving by air (December 2013) Australia visitors continue to dominate the number of visitor arrivals by air to Vanuatu accounting for 62%, New Caledonia at 14%, New Zealand at 9%, other Pacific countries at 5%, Europe at 4%, other countries at 3%, North America at 2% and Japan at 1%. * Cruise Ship visitor Arrivals (December 2012 to December- 2013) Cruise ship visitors showed an increase of 31% or 5,365 visitors, increasing from 17,188 visitors in December 2012 to 22,553 visitors in December 2013. The Cruise ship number increased from 8 in December 2012 to 11 cruise ships in 2013. Overall, cruise ship visitors accounted for 70 % of overall international visitor arrival.
