It brings together the French speakers and countries. Competitions and cultural activities are held on March 20 every year in the francophone milieu to celebrate their tradition. The official Francophonie organisation was formed in 1970. It is called The International Organisation of Francophonie (Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie), commonly referred to as La Francophonie. There are 75 member states in it, spread over in the five continents. This organization promotes cooperation among all the francophone states, its motto being ‘equality, complementarity and solidarity.’ La Francophonie is indeed a global community of people living in the five continents, their unique link and bonding being the French language.
