INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY 2015 A partnership event with CommunicationID, CommunityID and DCAL! A formal event planned for Friday 20th February 2015 in London. Aimed at Deaf professionals, BSL/English Interpreters, aspiring interpreters (but will be open to anyone interested). We are planning another event to celebrate the 16th International Mother Language Day. The day is observed every year, on 21st February, to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. We first ran such an event in 2012 and it was very popular with lots of positive feedback; then we focused on the ‘mother’ languages of Deaf people and BSL/English Interpreters. This year’s event is being delivered in partnership with DCAL, which is very exciting news and we have managed to confirm a wonderful line up of speakers and workshops. The theme for this year’s event is “Education & Employment; preserving, developing and promoting awareness of BSL and Interpreting standards” – please see below for the confirmed plans so far for the day. There is a poster attached too. Morning theme: Access to Employment PANEL - Presentations: Professor Graham H Turner (Herriot Watt University, Edinburgh) “BSL – the future is in our hands.” Dr Terry Riley OBE (Chair, BDA) * Legal status of BSL and ATW experience in his role as BDA Chair * Colette Hogan (Director) Directorial and Senior Management - interpreter value and CPD needs. QUESTIONS & ANSWERS – from the audience to panel.
