INTERSTELLAR: wow, um, err, yeah... Walking out of the theater last night, all I could think / feel was: surprisingly, nothing at all... Seriously, I cant recall the last time Ive been so utterly INDIFFERENT in my response to a film... Im huge fan sci fi fan (its my goto genre when I write), and theres sci fi aplenty here but, in this instance, Im sorry to say there was really nothing new at all put up on the screen (aside from a few trippy visuals near the end, hardly the WOW!! factor Id been hyped to expect)... The movie was obviously a deeply personal statement for Nolan (every time he goes and makes a film he loses a year of his life that he could have otherwise spent with his four kids), and this is reflected in the fact that the dramatic impetus, here, hinges on our protag having to give up so many key years with his daughter in order to head off into space and save the world (leaving her behind in the process)... And yet, somehow, the whole thing falls flat; most likely because we have TWO movies playing out here, then, not just one (a small family drama AND an epic space opera), and right around the mid point they just starting butting heads with one another, to the detriment of both. Ultimately Interstellar tries to be all things to all people (it tries to be a movie about hard science space exploration AND a schlocky sentimental tear jerker, like 2001 meets the Lifetime Movie of the Week), and thus, ultimately, ends up being almost nothing to anyone. Feels very much like a Shyamalan movie (big actors, high concept, low budget, limited locations), and the last thing I was expecting to feel from this one was Huh, that actually felt pretty cheap... but thats honestly how it comes across. Not a BAD movie per se, just not a good one either. Final analysis: skip it and wait for cable / streaming. https://youtube/watch?v=0vxOhd4qlnA
