INTRODUCTION OF STEVEN AKWETEY POLITICAL BACKGROUND • Steven Akwetey served as assistant secretary of the June 4th Movement (Nungua Branch) from 1980 to 1981 and became the secretary in 1979. • He became the Secretary of his hometown (Nungua Area P.D.C) in 1982 to 1983. He was the secretary of Nungua C.D.R.S in the same period mentioned earlier. • Under the auspices of the Ghana government, he went to Bulgaria in 1984 to pursue further studies in (Method of Youth Organization) for a short period. He returned to the U.S.S.R (Russia) by government of Ghana sponsored program in 1988 and obtained Diploma in Social Sciences from the Lenin School of Social Sciences. • Steven Akwetey was sponsored by Valco at Takoradi in book writing course through the United States of America in 1990. • He was a member of the Greater Accra regional Tender Board and a member of the Greater Accra Regional Training Team of Non-formal education. (Ministry of education) from 1989 to 1992. • He became the Head of Education/Culture for National Youth Organizing Commission of the Greater Accra Region and the Co-coordinator of the Democratic Youth League of Ghana (Nungua Branch) also in the Greater Accra Region in 1984 to 1988. • He was the Head of Information, Culture & Education in the Accra District C.D.R.S in 1984 to 1988. • Steven Akwetey became the Head of Monitoring & Co-ordination of the Greater Accra Region of CDR’S between 1988 to1992. • The NDC party after losing the 2001 elections to the NPP, Steven Akwetey assumed the Krowor Constituency chairmanship. SPORTS ADMINISTRATION. • Steven Akwetey became Management Member /Assistant Team Manager of Accra Hearts of Oak S/C Ltd.) in 1998. • Stephen Akwetey became a Management Member/Assistant Team Manager of Accra Hearts of Oak S/C Ltd.) between 1990 to 2002. He became the Team Manager of Accra Hearts of Oak in 2003, when Tommy Okine assumed the club’s chairmanship and then in 2004 he became the operational Director. • He was the Director of Operations in charge of both Senior & Junior Teams of Accra Hearts of Oak S/C Ltd.) between 2003 to 2006. • He became chairman for the Interim Management Committee (I.M.C) of Accra Hearts of Oak S/C Ltd.) in 2007. • He was a Member of Board of Directors of Accra Hearts of Oak S/C Ltd.) between 2005 to 2010. • Stephen Akwetey believes that ‘’every constituency in the Greater Accra Region should be charged to identify one major economic project they would want to implement. It could be but not limited to improving the productivity of those in the service industries of agriculture and tourism. • The region shall endeavor to help outline these empowerment programs. The aim will be for the lower structures to generate their own internal revenues thus becoming self-sufficient. The Party’s regional executives shall definitely help in these regards, so that; the NDC is not seen as only active during campaign periods.
