INTRODUCTION TO HEIDEGGER Someone messaged me about some articles on Heidegger, wanting an introduction, I suppose. I gave him more than he probably wanted. Ill reproduce that here. Some of the references are to postings from this Facebook page which link to resources. But many are to the wonderful Ereignis Website. --------------------------------------------------------- The foremost scholar of Heidegger is Theodore Kisiel. Heres his review of a recent book on Heideggers _Being and Time_ that provides an excellent sense of Heideggers thinking. Kisiel is disagreeing with the author of the book at times, but in the process provides an excellent sense of Heidegger: ndpr.nd.edu/news/24073-heidegger-s-early-philosophy-the-phenomenology-of-ecstatic-temporality/ ----------------------------------------- In 1962, Heidegger wrote a letter to an American scholar, indicating his own perspective on his career. Theres a link to this from an explanatory posting on the Facebook Page: https://facebook/Heidegger/posts/10151637647611175 ----------------------------------------- Kisiel provides a brilliant discussion of Heideggers sense of politics here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent/u/36809571/MH/Kisiel2013.pdf ----------------------------------------- The ENTIRE book _Poetry, Language, Thought_, is available as a PDF through a link at the bottom of this Facebook Page posting on The Thing essay: https://facebook/Heidegger/posts/321558711383257 ----------------------------------------- A comprehensive Web site resource on Heidegger is the Ereignis Website here: beyng/ Especially useful there is its list of available English translations: beyng/hb/hbheid.html ----------------------------------------- But that list is alphabetical, not the sequence of whats most important to Heideggers career. I recommend the following sequence: • _Basic Writings_ and the _Heidegger Reader_, noted here: beyng/hb/hbanth.html#BasicWritings • Identity and Difference, noted here: beyng/hb/hbiddiff.html • Poetry, Language, Thought, indicated above • On the Way to Language beyng/hb/hblanguage.html • Pathmarks beyng/hb/hbpathmarks.html Cheers, Gary E.
