INTRODUCTIONS We’ve asked the filmmakers for the 18th annual - TopicsExpress

INTRODUCTIONS We’ve asked the filmmakers for the 18th annual Faludi International Film Festival the same three questions. And we present an artist of them every Friday. Laura Rembault: Pas de noel pour papa/No X-mas for Santa #1: In 140 characters or less, describe your movie and why someone should see it. Pas de Noël pour Papa/No Xmas for Santa, is my first movie and I think, Its always interesting to watch short movies because they are the mark of a beginning : the beginning of making film, to show for the 1st time what is in the head of young directors, their worlds, their motivations, their references... In my short film, if you pay attention you can see references to the aesthetics of Jean Pierre Jeunet and Caro but also, The Night of the Hunter (by Charles Laughton, 1955), The Bride of Frankenstein (by James Whales, 1935) has also an important part in the film. Its important to notice how young directors are impregnated of references and what they do with it. This creates a new vision of cinema with great creativity. With old things, they create new things, they are the future of cinema. #2: Biggest lesson learned in getting the film made? Best part in getting the film made? Biggest lesson learned in getting the film made? NEVER bring a cat on the set ! Steven Spielberg one day say that there are two thing which its very hard to manage on a movie set : children and animals. Thats so true ! Best part in getting the film made? I think the best part for me, it was to cast the actress for the role of Lily, Santas bride. Because at this moment, you know the adventure is really getting real. And it was very interesting, for me, to search a girl that is exactly what I have imagined when I was writing the script. Its quite a challenge ! #3: Tell us about you. What is your movie making background? About me ? Im just a girl of 23, a real movie brats. Always searching the old rare films, watching all the films that we must see, the list is so long...I think Ill need more that one life ! Seriously, I am crazy about old horror films and also film noir, all the old Jekyll and Hyde, or Dracula, The Most Dangerous Game, The Bad and the Beautiful, ...but I also like a lot Guillermo del Toros movies (Pans Labyrinth or El Espinazo del Diablo) for the fantastic background, Tim Burtons film for the references of german expressionism, Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu for the realism and his vision of society...Ill stop here because, cinema is a big subject and its too wide. This is just a sample of what I like !
