The Pan-African e-commerce site Jumia announced on 25 November, having raised 120 million euros, of which 108.3 million from its parent Africa Internet Group (AIG). The latter is a joint venture between the German start-up incubator Rocket Internet, the South African group MTN telecoms, and the Latin American conglomerate Millicom. The remaining 11.7 million were removed from the holding company BGN Brilliant Services GmbH. The company that publishes Jumia had already raised € 19 million in March 2013 from Summit Partners and 26 million in June 2013 with the telecommunications company Millicom. Jumia is now valued € 445 million. The online sales site is present in Great Britain and in nine African markets: Ghana, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Kenya, Morocco, Egypt, Nigeria, Uganda and Tanzania. The site offers products ranging from ready-to-wear, computers, telephony, automobile parts, household appliances, games, etc. Jumia employs approximately 1,500 people in 10 countries and posted a negative EBITDA of EUR -26.3 million in the first half of 2014. But his outlook is very promising in the medium and long term. McKinsey provides for an explosion of online business in Africa.
