INjustice We grow up with disillusionment. Santa isn’t real. Our parents aren’t perfect. Life is not fair. However, one thing we’re taught from day one is how important the law is. Then we learn it has little to do with right and wrong and is often technical in response. The phrase “legal wrangling” comes to mind and “getting off on a technicality.” The latest Florida prosecutorial fiasco only presents us with one more disillusion - like OJ before, that the highest paid debate team most often wins. It’s about who make the best argument, not who’s right, wrong, legal or illegal. The tone for our legal system runs from the top down. The “supremes” set the example with Citizens United. Lawyers protect the system which requires great technical knowledge and the understanding of how to argue a case. As anyone who has ever tried to argue a case without a lawyer who knows the “rules” and the “right terms,” can tell you, it’s almost impossible. Whatever happened to the concept of justice?
