IPFD responded to the Leatherwood Curves this afternoon. The U bolt on an eastbound semi trailer hauling sand broke as the truck was rounding a curve. The end result was that the tractor stayed in the eastbound lane, while the rear of the trailer wandered into the westbound lane. Both lanes were completely blocked. The highway was shut down for two hours while mechanics from the trucking company repaired the trailer. IP units were stationed at highway 62 and all three 187s to divert Eureka bound traffic through Holiday Island. Other IP units turned west bound traffic around at the Leatherwood bridge, while ESFD units were stationed at Razorback Gift Shop to divert through traffic back through HI. In the end, repairs were made to the trailer, and the semi was able to drive carefully toward Eureka.
