IPL 2014 Venues: Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket stadium, Hyderabad IndiaToday.in New Delhi, Friday, April 11, 2014 Hyderabad stadium The ground formerly known as Visaka International Cricket stadium is one of the premier stadiums in India. Located in Uppal - an eastern suburb of Hyderabad, the stadium is the home ground of IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad. With a capacity of 55,000 spectators, the stadium hosted it first ODI match when India locked horns with South Africa in 2005. In the same year, YS Rajasekhara Reddy - the former CM of Andhra Pradesh - decided to change its name in memory of the former Indian PM Rajiv Gandhi. The decision proved to be a costly affair as Hyderabad Cricket Association(HCA) as they were required to pay Visakha Industries - who won the stadiums title auction for Rs 65 crore - six times the contract price in accordance to the contract clause. However, following some negotiations by the government, the HCA got away by paying just Rs 43 crore. Total ODIs Hosted: 8 First ODI: India vs South Africa on November 16, 2005.
