IRONY OF IRONIES! The cops in NY decide to do only necessary police work and chaos does NOT ensue. In fact people continue with their lives just fine, and crime incidence actually falls. Not only that, but people get a refreshing breather from the oppressive ubiquity of ticket writers! Its hard not to escape the conclusion that a lot of crime is actually generated by too much police presence itself. Perhaps NYCs revenue shortfall could better be met by a reduction in the police force more reflective of the actual crimes generated.
