IS BOKO HARAM THE MILITARY ARM OF APC??? There is no doubt that Boko Haram like Hezbollah, Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, etc are terrorist organisations. However, what will surprise many is that Boko Haram is playing the script of some desperate politicians. Further-more, it is also shown to by its action & tacit support from political elites is acting as military arm of APC. The central target is ensuring that President Jonathan is nopt returned to office beyond 2015. The statements of top functionaries of APC attest to this, showing that Boko Haram are subordinate to the APCs broad political goal, even if they operate with some level of independence. When the activities of the Boko Haram insurgent escalated in 2011 following threats by some disgruntled politicians who vowed to make the country ungovernable for President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, many northern leaders neither condemn such utterances nor the activities of the Boko Haram sects. 1. General Buhari on Sunday, June 2, 2013, broke what was found to be his ominous silence. Speaking on Liberty Radio in Kaduna, the reticent retired General criticized the declaration of state of emergency in three Northern states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe, describing the action as a grave injustice against the North. Buhari holds the strange notion that while Niger Delta militants were given special treatments, the Boko Haram terrorists were being killed and their house demolished. 2. In February this year, the Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shetima said, “…..But honestly Boko Haram are better armed and are better motivated than our own troops”. Shetima continued, “Believe me, I am (an) eternal optimist as I have always said. But I am also a realist. Given the present state of affairs it is absolutely impossible for us to defeat Boko Haram”. 3. The impeached Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, in his letter to the Northern Governors Forum titled On-Going Full-Fledged Genocide in “Northern Nigeria”, accused the federal government of genocide using “mass murderers/cut-throat imbedded in our legitimate and traditional defence and security organizations” 4. These statements have caused considerable uproar in the Nigerian press and major controversy among the political class. (Some say that Buhari, who spoke in Hausa, was misquoted and misinterpreted; see here for an interesting discussion of the Hausa proverb “kare jini biri jini.”) 5. APC Political leaders have made various grave inciting statements on Boko Haram, which tend to support this thinking. Today, the same northern leaders who were mute at the outset of the Boko Haram insurgents (Since 2011) are shouting loudest; heaping all the blames at the feet of the federal government. In other societies, when there are bomb explosions or other violent crimes, the citizens would protest against the bombers or those that perpetuated such heinous crimes but in the Nigerian situation rather than protesting against the Boko Haram sects that alleged abducted the innocent Chibok girls some politically motivated Nigerians are protesting against the federal government! However, Nigeria is too big to allow the militarization of political parties to continue without challenge. Nigerians shine your eyes.
