IS PRESIDENT KOROMA THE SOLUTION OR PROBLEM TO S/LEONE? Sierra Leoneans from the dim witted to the elites are controversially asking: Is President Ernest Bai Koroma the solution or problem to S/Leone? Some critics will argue that President Koromas leadership is more burden than a solution. Others will say his leadership is more of a solution with unstoppable inflow of prosperity for all S/Leoneans devoid of political affiliations. It is an open secret that President Koroma came to power through popular majority and high expectations that another Moses has arrived to salvage the Country. With such euphoria, President Koroma made a vow and devised the Attitudinal and Behavioural Change Policy. Five years down the line, he was able to convince more S/Leoneans even though he did not in any way solve the bread and butter problem of the common man. In fact his Attitudinal and Behavioural Change Policy did not succeed but was smart to introduce the Agenda for Prosperity(AfP) as the solution to S/Leone.He said during his campaign trail: Vote for me to take you to the journey of Prosperity. EBK used those fora as a smoke box oratory to win the hearts and minds of the gullible public. Some die hard party stalwarts and supporters are still convinced that EBK is the best President who has no replacement even within the APC Party. Some are even optimistic that the Ebola outbreak prevented EBK from taken all S/Leoneans to the Journey of Prosperity. Despite those challenges, APC led government has made salient contributions to the countrys growth (courtesy of World Bank Doing Business Index 2013). Today, many are of the view that the Agenda for Prosperity (AfP) has landed S/Leone into an archipelago of chaos, frustration and a state of stressful attack. They went on to say that the political cake is partially distributed to political cronies. The irony is, some EBKs admirer describe him as Father of Democratic Good Governance. My question is, why did President Koroma violate our national Constitution with impunity? A true Democrat will never undermine the Countrys Constituton. For instance, the appointment of Arrow Bockarie as the Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice was a delibrate undemocratic action by EBK. Such appointment is/was contrary to Constitutional proviso. The Constitution did not make provision for such position. In fact Arrow Bockaris age in the profession was 17 years instead of 20 years which qualifies one for such office. Take a look at the Chief Justice saga. Is that the way AfP operates? What an irony by those who misrepresent the leadership qualities of EBK. These actions are administrative blunders and leadership failures to the highest peak. The Ebola invasion only lowered the misguided policies devised by the AfP. It helps to expose our rotten health system. Ebola scourge could not be the reason for the woeful failures of the AfP. Indeed, the Ebola virus publicly expose the maladministration of the government which negligently increased the death toll in the country. Many are saying that with or without the Ebola outbreak, the AfP was heading for the rock. How do we quantify the successes of AfP? Like I stated earlier, the AfP did not or is not the solution to address the problems of S/Leoneans, especially a country labelled to be poverty prone. EBK inherited a government with no external debt. This was made known by President Ahmed Tejan Kabba(RIP) during his official handing over speech on 17th Nov. 2007. Today, before the Ebola invasion, we are going through a battered economy with huge external debts from IMF, World Bank and Chinese Government among host of others.
