IS THIS SEA FRONT PROPERTY THE BEST LOCATION FOR THE PTSC BUS TERMINUS? AFTER 10 YEARS, THE PTSC EYES NEW HOME - Tuesday, 16 December 2014 21:58 Written by Mersha Ramsey This could be the new location of the Temporary Bus Terminus. This could be the new location of the Temporary Bus Terminus. LAND between the Scarborough Port and the Milford Road Esplanade could be the new location of the Temporary Bus Terminus for Tobago. The Public Transportation Service Corporation (PTSC) has until December 31 to move out of its present site at Sangsters Hill. The PTSCs Assistant Deputy General Manager in Tobago, Henry Cook confirmed that the Minister of Transport, Stephen Cadiz is exploring the option of utilising an empty plot of land. The location was formerly the home of two large tanks, but these tanks were removed in recent years leaving the property vacant. Minister Cadiz is said to be working with his technical staff to determine the feasibility of the site. Cook notes that he is hopeful that the work on a structure will begin soon to avoid any interruption in the service and the inconvenience of the public. Meanwhile, members of the public expressed mixed views on the terminus’ proposed new location. Jerome Berkley of Patience Hill says, “It’s good that the new place would be right in town here. They should have start it already and get something stable you know? But I hope the service would be more steady too.” Airing concerns about the size of the property the PTSC is considering, Cindy Pascal of Goodwood, says, “That place over there so small. They cant put anything properly there. Why they don’t do this thing right and get a good, nice place so people could be comfortable? Is so long people waiting man.” Glendon Moore of Bon Accord adds, “Anything go be better than where they is now.” The PTSC was given notice to vacate the Tobago United Cooperative Society Building at Sangster’s Hill in October. This is to facilitate maintenance and repair work on the building come January 2015. The Temporary Bus Terminus has been housed there since 2004, after the initial terminus was demolished due to a lack of structural integrity as a result of the 1998 earthquake. Originally, there were plans for a newly built bus terminus to be located on Gardenside Street where it’s predecessor once stood, however, the recently completed Victor E Bruce Financial Complex now stands in that spot. As a result of industrial action and health and safety concerns being raised in recent months, the Temporary Bus Terminus at Sangster’s Hill only facilitates the pick-up and drop off of passengers. Administrative and other functions have been moved to the garage at Shaw Park.
