IS The Lord your Shepherd? If not, who is? Thank you, Mike... Psalm 23 A psalm of David. The Lord the Shepherd of His People (NKJV) The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever. Wisdom’s Application: Today’s passage is a very popular psalm written by King David. It is often referenced and read at funerals, reminding us the Lord our God is, ‘the shepherd of His people’. Like a shepherd tending his sheep, the Lord is the one in charge of our life course despite the paths we so choose in our decisions. When we realize He is the Lord, we realize he brings us peace and calmness in our lives. I find a transcending peace of this amazing psalm is in verse 4, as the Lord tells us: “ although we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we are to fear no evil! His rod and staff , they comfort us. § We need not fear. The valleys we find ourselves in are not a one way, forever trap, we cannot get out of. § God tells us we will walk through the valley. We do not stay stuck in the valley. As we go forth today, let us give thanks to God, for He has covered us in His amazing love and grace. And as psalm 23 concludes: - Surely God’s goodness and mercy shall be with us all the days of our life, and we will dwell in the house of the Lord –forever! To that I say –Amen! Praise be to God! The correct reference in the bible to the verse shared is Isaiah 64:8. = “Yet you, Lord, are our Father.
