ISAP entrepreneur series:Story 3 Veterinarian on the go “Convincing my parents that I do not want to do a salaried job was the biggest challenge for me”, says Dr. Bablu Sundi, a veterinarian from Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi. After completing his studies in 2009 Bablu, a resident of village Baredih, P.O- Bhagabandi, District East Singhbhum, Jharkhand, was in dilemma untill he was contacted by ISAP-Bokaro. On completion of his ACABC training in 2010, he was crystal clear in his mind about the mission and vision of his life. He now wanted to reach far and wide in the remotest hinterlands of the naxalite affected tribal state to provide benefit of his education to people of his state. He started Agro Vet Care Centre, a veterinary clinic to launch his business. In order to increase his outreach he got associated with an NGO called Birsa Yuva Sewa Samiti (BYSS). This symbiotic association on one hand helped the NGO in adding veterinary services in their portfolio and on the other hand helped Bablu increase his outreach to more than 4000 farmers in the villages of Dumria, Musabaniand Gudaband blocks of East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. The association with BYSS increased his outreach but his vision was far from met. Thinking out of the box he decided to start the first mobile agro-vetclinic of Jharkhand. He got a loan of ` 5.00 lakhs from Dumariya branch of Bank of India for this purpose 2013. The mobile clinic was started to meet the following objectives 1. To serve such remote areas of the naxalite affected state where govt. machinery is either 2. Trying to prevent migration of rural youth towards naxalism by providing them gainful employment through training on animal husbandry 3. To make available improved seeds, crop care chemicals, animal vaccinations and veterinary medicines at remote villages 4. To spread awareness about govt. sponsored schemes for the benefit of farmers, women, youth and children The mobile agro-vet clinic of Bablu, apart from supplying agri and veterinary inputs, also provides the following services to the farmers 1. Castration and surgery 2. Testing of animal blood, urine, dung, milk and Soil testing 3. Formulation of small dairy, poultry, piggery projects for farmers and helping them get bank funding 4. Audio visual training to farmers on animal husbandry 5. Money Transfer for farmers upto ` 10000 with help of Airtel Money 6. Mobile phone and DTH recharge through internet 7. Making internet accessible to tribal youths for online college / job applications 8. Assisting ATMA and other line department officials in spreading awareness about their programmes and schemes He is planning to replicate this model in the coming years. Bablu dreams to place one mobile agro-vet clinic in each block in order to have a deep penetration in the state.
