ISCRAM 2014 DOCTORAL COLLOQUIUM DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 15TH Join us for the annual doctoral colloquium of the Information Systems for Crisis Response and Management (ISCRAM) 2014 conference. The colloquium provides a unique opportunity for doctoral students to network with academic leaders as well as other graduate students from a wide range of disciplines. Participants will also receive valuable feedback on early stage research ideas. Applications are due February 15th and the colloquium will be held just prior to the conference on Sunday, May 18th, 2014 at Penn State University, USA. For more information see iscram2014.ist.psu.edu/sites/default/files/misc/DoctoralColloquium_ISCRAM2014.pdf [1]. In the tradition of ISCRAM, the Doctoral Colloquium will take place prior to the main conference on Sunday, May 18th, 2014. The colloquium is for doctoral students seeking careers as researchers in public, private and academic organizations with research interests in crisis management. The goals of the ISCRAM 2014 Ph.D. Colloquium are three-fold: * To develop and sustain a network of young scholars conducting high quality research in the area of Information Systems for Crisis Response and Management * To support the next generation of crisis management researchers by addressing issues relevant to the progression of a research career * To allow participants to discuss their research with leading specialists, scholars and peers in an international setting The Doctoral Colloquium will be held Sunday, prior to the conference, from 9:00-5:00. The colloquium will consist of three sessions. The morning session will focus on introductions, networking and general mentoring. The afternoon session will consist of group and individual research feedback sessions. The final session will be a colloquium poster session, providing students the opportunity to learn about one another’s research and prepare for the conference-wide poster session in which they will also participate. ELIGIBILITY As the aim of the colloquium is to assist candidates with their dissertation research, only doctoral students who have not yet defended their dissertation are eligible to apply. Accepted colloquium participants must register for the main conference – at the student rate. Attendance at the colloquium, if accepted, is free. APPLICATIONS In order to hold detailed discussions of the students’ research, the colloquium will be limited to twelve students. To apply, candidates should submit a single file by February 15, 2014 to the doctoral colloquium on the conference’s paper submission system (conftool). The file should contain the following: * A short CV, no more than two pages * A description of the research project: its context, aims and research question(s), the research method, and any results obtained to date. (2-5 pages in length including figures, tables, and references). There is no need to format this according to the ISCRAM format. * A personal statement of no more than one page identifying three specific aspects of the research (theory, method, data analysis, technical design, etc.) in which the student is seeking assistance. COLLOQUIUM LEADERS The day will be led by Dr. Carleen Maitland (faculty.ist.psu.edu/maitland), assisted by faculty mentors, including Dr. Chris Zobel of Virginia Tech (czobel.bit.vt.edu/).
